The most important aspect of having a successful website is your web traffic. Website traffic is nothing but more audiences for your website. The more popular your website gets, the more are chances that you could better monetize your website. However, attracting traffic isn’t very easy task. You may have great content for your website but if there are no audiences for it, then it’s of no use. If content is the King, then audiences are the masses who make you the king. Therefore, it is very vital that you have enough traffic on your website. In this blog post, I intend to answer few queries regarding the traffic of your website and how to increase them effectively.
1) What are the basics that I should follow for better SEO and good website traffic?
Here are the few must do things that you should consider:
- Write quality content. Write content which are atleast of 500 words. You may consider varying the length of your posts from 500-2000 words.
- Give appropriate titles to your post.
- Submit your website for Google sitemap.
- Sign Up for Google Analytics and Google webmaster.
- Give proper tags and categories for each of your post.
- Popularize your posts through Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus (atleast).
Have a well maintained SEO optimized design for your website. If you using the WordPress platform, then you can install the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast (recommended).
2) How much website traffic is required to start earning from ads (like Google, chitka, etc.)?
Lets be honest. We all start our own blogs/websites with the hope that we will generate maximum income from it. There is no doubt that some of us write for passion, however income is always associated so that we can recover atleast our domain and hosting expenses. So, just to be precise, your website must attract atleast 1000 visitors per day to come to a standard. If your website has a threshold of 1000 visitors, then you can think of earning some dollars, else your earnings might not be that good.
If you are new to the world of blogging, these are the things that you must consider before you consider applying for an ad network. The web world is flooded with examples of how people have started generating huge traffic and income from just 10-15 post, but do remember everyone has a background. So, do not compare yourself with anyone and have your own experience. As you gain experience, you will soon realize what works for you and what doesn’t.
3) I have written few blogs on my website, how should I let people know about it?
The answer to this is crystal clear. Socilaize. Make full usage of the socializing network. For the first few of your post, create personalized messages associated with your blog post that best describes it. Later on, when your number of posts grows, you can use the automated plugins to keep your posts automated.
Here is the list of socializing network that you could consider:
- Facebook – create a page along with your profile.
- Google plus – create a business page for Google +.
- Tumblr
- Diggit
- Pin interest
- Slide share
Popularizing your website through the social platforms is the best way to attract traffic.
These are few famous platforms where you can create your web presence. However, if you feel there are other platforms too worth mentioning, please mention it in the comments section.
4) What is back linking my website? How do I use back linking to generate great website traffic?
These are nothing but incoming links to your website. These are links to your web pages (or rather post) from some other web pages.
When someone links your posts into their webpages, then there are possible changes of getting traffic from it. People may link to your post because of the relevancy of your post with their own or they may refer to your post because of the quality content.
Another way is putting the link of your website on the comments sections of popular websites. You may write relevant comments and put your webpage’s link as a reference. This is a good way of connecting and widening your network. However, do remember not to spam the comments section otherwise you may get blocked. Also, the reputation of your website may be hampered.
Back linking your site is a very good ways to generate your traffic however do not waste your time on too much of back linking. Just maintain a balance.
5) Should I submit my website to a web directory?
This is also recommended way of increasing the traffic of your website. You could submit your website to some of the web directories, may be 5-10, but do not overdo it. Google does not like too much linking with the web directories.
Dmoz is one of the popular web-directory that you might consider. Its free and you can submit your website url.
6) How important are tags and meta description in attracting the traffic for my website?
This is one thing that I missed for quite some time. Since I bought the Genesis Framework for my website and its seo optimized, I did not feel the need to spend time on creating tags and meta description for my post. However, soon I realized my mistake when I wasn’t generating a good traffic and started working on the tags and meta description. I would say it did help me to improve my site traffic. So, you must give some of your time to it.
7) Should I follow a particular niche and only write about those?
In a way Yes. You should first decide on the categories where you would want to reflect your expertise while writing your posts. It is best to follow similar categories when you are initially starting. Then you can base out your category and expand them. Do not just write randomly on anything. You audience should be able to connect to you. You cannot sell vegetables and provide health services at the same time. Similar is the case. Even if you want to, have proper categories in your menu so that your audience should be able to choose and not be misguided when navigating through your website. Remember, time is precious for everyone.
8) Should I consider buying website traffic?
Never fall trap for this. This is the worst suggestion that someone could give to you. Never go for buying traffic. It will never help, neither in the short run or in the long run. Moreover, Google is much more bothered about the organic traffic that you receive rather than anything else.
