Like any other working professional, my life had become completely monotonous with the same routine being followed for the past few years. The years are progressing and changing with each passing of the time, however the routine remains the same. It doesn’t matter whether you start the day early or late, the routine work needs to be followed. The same 9 hours job added with the fixed daily routine, there is hardly any time to breathe in the fresh air. If its raining, it’s a trouble; its is too warm, its irritating and if its too cold, it’s a headache too. We never seem to be satisfied with whatever nature offers. What can be done for breaking through monotonous routine or rather life?
Even on a personal level, the dissatisfaction grows – the dissatisfaction of monetary security, the dissatisfaction of social relationships, and the dissatisfaction of personal priorities……..the list can go on.
I too had started building up this hill of monotony till I got a change in my lifestyle accidently. No, I didn’t quit my job nor did I earn a fortune. My routine is still the same and plain. But I added what I call it ‘The Change Factor’ to it. I brought in some change in my life – a positive change which is not giving me any monetary gains but that is driving me to move forward.
Well here is what happened. Since the past several months or say years, I was following a consistent routine – five working days and two weekends (with few public holidays here and there). My working days were as hectic as ever and my weekends were more about physical relaxing than mental. As such, I would never feel at rest. This cycle would go on…….To top it all, lot of dynamic events added up …….my father-in-law had a paralysis attack, my husband would be worried for financial matters & his growth, everyone in the family started falling sick and my mom and dad, although very supportive, were not happy either for some reason or the other. This was my toughest time. With added responsibilities, lot of work pressure and mental stress, it was not easy. If I would ever turn around I would find dissatisfaction everywhere.
However, during this time I did one good thing to bring in some change in my life. I had just filled in the form for a Post-Graduation in MBA which I had desired to pursue since last one year. It is a distance learning course and I luckily got admitted into it. The course is a bit tough and it required me to attend the contact classes for 10 days including my two weekends, plus huge assignments followed by the exam.
I know, 10 days wouldn’t seem to be that big a deal, but for me it was a big issue. For the past few months, I hadn’t been able to find time for me….. it seemed to be too overwhelming for me. Even, everyone around me thought that I had taken the craziest decision to pursue this course when things are running so dynamic for me. Few suggested that I wait till things settle but I knew, that things don’t settle ever. I have to settle things for myself.
There would never be a perfect day when I would be free of any worries. Life with go on with worries and tensions attached to it. It is you who will have to make a way to make things work for you. So, here I am, pursuing my course and going for the contact classes. I know I have to sacrifice my weekends. Then, stretch at work to make time for attending the classes. But I am doing it happily more than anything.
The thought of exhausting myself by getting up early and sleeping late at night doesn’t bother me anymore. I am not looking at results right now. I just feel happy that I am doing something good for myself and bringing in the change in my life. It is just because I brought in a little change into my life.I feel great that a single decision of mine has been a breakthrough from my hill of monotony. This positive change in the life style is necessary for each one of us.
I am trying to take things and do a bit of it. The after-effects of this change is that I don’t have piled up list of things that I want to do.I have not made a goal to accomplish everything at one time or in a single day. I am giving time to myself to take up things as and when I can. Even I am taking up the responsibility of completing off with my routine work effectively and efficiently without shying away from it. The zeal to work forward has come back and it feels really good to wake up and welcome each day.
We always wonder how some people are able to do so many tasks and accomplish so many things so well. Even I used to wonder the same. But my experience has taught me that having a positive mindset towards the obstacle in life will give you the hope and the faith to move forward in life. We need some change to breakthrough the barriers. And it will always be you who would have to initiate it…….Nobody on your behalf will place things right for you. So don’t hesitate and break the monotony.
FYI: My MBA course is about to finish. I am now planning to pursue a course in Guitar. I feel great and excited. Doing things I have longed for is giving me immense satisfaction.
Takeaways:
- Initiate some Change in Life.
- Bring some change in your lifestyle which doesn’t resemble your daily routine. Try to bring positive changes.
- Understand that your priorities are also important for your self-satisfaction. Life is not about meeting your basic needs. We, human beings, find satisfaction only in things that we like or want.
- We often think that we have less time and so much to do. Overwhelming here is not the solution. We will find enough time to do all that we want.We just need to be determined to manage things on a positive note.
- Try to accomplish the task which you have desired for, once in a while. Don’t ignore it. This is the energizer that will help you to carry out other important and routine tasks.
